Holiday, Texas

Book a trip to Holiday, Texas at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures! Holiday, Texas is the museum's annual holiday exhibit honoring select stories and traditions of Texas's cultural and ethnic groups. This year's exhibit will feature three distinct sections: A White House Christmas, Christmas across Cultures, and the Ferdinand Pribyl Bethlehem Nativity Scene.

A White House Christmas will showcase Presidential Christmas cards, White House Christmas ornaments, engravings and lithographs, and other collectibles, as well as books about White House Christmases. The exhibit is all part of the Judd Christmas Book Collection, a compilation of books accumulated over the years by San Antonians Mary Jane and Raymond Judd.

Christmas across Cultures will feature the celebratory traditions of the Czechs, Polish, Germans, and Swedes; explore the traditions of the Jewish celebrations of Hanukkah; present the ancient tradition of Yuletide, and showcase the emerging African American observance of Kwanzaa.

The exhibit's Bethlehem Nativity Scene is the work of Czech Moravian artist Ferdinand Pribyl who painted seven wall-sized Bethlehem scenes between 1895 and 1902. Pribyl used his native homeland of Austria for inspiration when creating the background and landscape of the scene. The painting is on loan to the museum from the collection of Fred and Elizabeth Stockbauer of Victoria, Texas.

Please help us spread the word! Print a flyer and post it at your office, daycare, school, or social gathering place. Thank you
